I have a thing for alternative fabrics, which don't have to necessarily be real life, ready-to-wear by any means. In this series "Hunger Pains", each model wears the meal they were craving. 15 designers took hours to create, cook, and assemble each one. Once completed, they were photographed by Ted Sabarese. Practicality aside, pretty freakin cool.

goodbye, Summer
Yesterday, I wore white and mourned the passing of our dear friend, Summer. According to that old fashion faux pas, it's bad style judgement to wear white after Labor Day. The calendar indicates a new season, but the temperature in Florida doesn't. The spirit of summer holds us in her lazy, sweaty embrace year round. So, we Floridians can wear our white year round and wear it in honor of Summer. She's always here. The pit stains of my shirt can prove it.

back to the future
With the resurgence of all things 1980's from wayfarers to leotards, I decided to raid my mom's closet in search of treasures she has kept and not looked at, let alone worn in 15 years. Luckily for me, she takes impeccable care of her things. I surfaced with a silk kimono from Japan, 3 button down shirts, and this little gem, a long sleeved knit with jagged mesh top from 1981. SCORE.

Slightly reminiscent of a figure skater's top? meybe. The trick is to mix and match these vintage items with more contemporary ones (ie: low cut jeans) so as to not completely regurgitate the look of 25 years ago, but rather combine to create whole new looks. The point is to pay tribute to the past while still exemplifying the here and now.
...and now for a tribute to Phillipe Halsman,
